client briefs
Formal Briefs are in the form of written documents and use technical and specific language. Focuses in depth on important data such as detail, budget, deadlines, requirements etc.
Most pre production briefs are in this style. Other information included in the brief can be characters or even whether its educational, its more or style.
Informal Brief Can be as casual as a meeting over a drink non limiting not heavily documented. There also isn't a contract made on the initial meeting and there are no specific requirements.
Contractual Brief is where tasks are accepted over a legal agreement and become an obligation. The clients desires and deadlines must be met and both the client and the media producer must stick to the brief. These briefs are popular because it means that a project has to be made and to a time frame.
Negotiated Brief is where both the client and the producer have a say in the decisions made which means the initial brief can be altered.
Co-Operative Brief is when two or more production companies are working together to meet the brief.
Competition Brief os when the brief is advertised to multiple media producers and the producers don't have to pitch their idea. All of the producers create their product and the client decides which one they like the best. The reward is usually just getting project made.
Commissioning Brief is where a media company employs an independent company to produce their film. the brief is not negotiated by the producer and their employer/commissioner.
The commissioner may negotiate the brief with the client and these projects usually end with the independent company being payed royalties.
There are factors that impact the potential project management of a brief, these include explicit requirements, things that absolutely must be included, implicit requirements, things that must be included but are more between the lines. Requirements that are open to interpretation can be slightly altered and constraints which are strict.

Different types of client briefs exist because the nature of a project can vary. Some are very profit orientated so would need a formal, clear brief so that the formula provided is kept to in order to keep stakeholders happy. In contrast, informal briefs exist for projects that are less money orientated and have more lenient time frames.
