What does a production manager do?

Production designers are responsible for turning the directions from the script into a physical scene. They are given a budget that must be abided by and have to collect all the items needed in order to set the scene.

Production designers also work alongside the location, set movers and wardrobe department.

They have many issues that they have to deal with such a timing. The script can change and they must adapt quickly as well as actor schedules that have to be worked around.

Production designers have to be good at multi-tasking as there is a lot going on at once from the 8-10 weeks of pre-production due to script changes and during shooting the movie.
Social skills are also vital for this job as it requires talking to lots of different people from all areas of film production. Experience in the film industry is also really important and experience in any area will help. It very important to be able to visualise something physical from reading.
Training in art history, interior design and film production is important as well as getting physical training from a set designer.
